Community Groups
Knit n Knatter
We meet on Fridays 10am to 12pm in the Oasis room – everyone is welcome.
Although fundraising is not our main aim, the group has been able to support various appeals including ‘New Pyjamas’, the Community Pantry, Berkshire Women’s Aid and St Peter’s own Community Hub as well as donating items to hospitals and care homes in the area.
Supporting the British Legion in their Poppy Appeal is an annual event for us, making poppy brooches, as is our presence at the Christmas Market.
We make anything from baby clothes, toys, hats and scarves to egg cosies and patchwork blankets.
We have yarns, knitting needles and patterns for members to use, so you don’t need to worry about a starting kit!
Come along to brush up on your knitting and crochet with the ready support of the existing members, learn a new skill, or just enjoy a natter and a cuppa.
Upcycling
Inspiring you to save our planet by remaking something old into something new.
Discoveries has a community group where anyone can come and take part in upcycling. We provide materials, all you need is a willingness to have a go!
You can keep whatever you make, or donate to Discoveries to sell. We make gift bags, rugs, tote bags, cushions, bunting… The list is endless!
We can cut out fabric, sew, knit, crochet – why not come and learn a new skill, drink tea & chat? Got upcycling ideas? Pop in and share!
The Discoveries Community Upcycling Project is a great place to meet friends and make new ones. Everyone welcome, we meet on Fridays from 1pm to 3pm in Oasis, St Peter’s Church.
Home Alone
Home Alone is a drop-in club for anyone who is alone in their home.
Hear Here
The Hear Here initiative offers vital support to NHS hearing aid users through its Hearing Champions program. Trained volunteers provide free services, including cleaning, re-tubing, battery replacement, and general maintenance for ‘behind the ear’ hearing aids. Clinics are held in Oasis Room on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This service is available to all local residents with NHS hearing aids, regardless of age or background and aims to reduce strain on NHS audiology services while fostering community support.
